Rapids council says no to apartment development

WISCONSIN RAPIDS – In a 6-2 vote May 15, the Wisconsin Rapids Common Council denied a proposal by PRE/3 Property Management, Brookfield, to place a 48-unit apartment complex on Rapid’s west side.
The development would require the rezoning of seven acres of property owned by Wood County at the intersection of 17th Avenue and Rosecrans Street from an Agriculture District to Multi-family Residential. The property primarily consists of woodland and wetlands.
A recent housing study has shown a need for 132-170 apartment units in the city before 2031 to address employment trends.
Local residents have stressed concerns over disturbing the area’s wildlife and increasing vehicle traffic with the proposed development.
