A “Top 50 Touring Act” takes the stage

Posted

WISCONSIN RAPIDS – The Music of Billy Joel and Elton John features the top hits of these two great rock piano legends. PollStar ranked this show in the Top 50 touring acts/shows the last two years. Michael Cavanaugh stars in the production. He was handpicked by Billy Joel to star in the hit Broadway musical Movin’ Out. Cavanaugh received both Tony and Grammy nominations in the lead role.
Billboard calls him the “New Voice of the American Rock and Roll Songbook.” Broadway World referred to Cavanaugh as “The New Piano Man.” Reuters named Cavanaugh Entertainer of the Year.
After attending a recent show, Jeff Kaczmarczyk said, “Cavanaugh is no impersonator, but the similarities between their (Billy Joel’s and Cavanaugh’s) styles are not to be missed. The
Cleveland native doesn’t have the brassy Bronx edge to his voice that Joel does. His tone is sweeter. But Cavanaugh’s vocal range is identical, his inflection in songs like Keeping the Faith is spot-on, and his piano licks from tunes such as New York State of Mind are faithful recreations.”
Some other songs you can expect to hear include Piano Man, Rocket Man, Bennie and the Jets, Movin’ Out, I’m Still Standing, My Life, and many more.

This production is presented by The Arts Council of South Wood County on Thursday, March 20, at 7:30 pm at the Performing Arts Center of Wisconsin Rapids, 1801 16th Street South.
