Small debate was heard Wednesday night over the spending of approximately $2,000 on a new conference table, curtains and office chairs for the Airport Commission meetings.
The current conference table at South Wood County Airport is seen as outdated and too small. An upgrade would see a much longer, 12-foot table with accompanying office chairs.
"I personally think this is a ridiculous thing," said commission member Bill Clendenning. "The fact that we spend 24 hours a year in here, and the sun shines in our eyes maybe eight of those months, and we want to buy $800 curtains?"
Clendenning suggested that the meetings move to the basement if sunlight is a problem.
"People have a lot of requests for community rooms, and I think if we're going to get a much larger table, for example, maybe we should consider moving our meetings downstars," said Mayor Zach Vruwink. "I'm torn -- I can see that there's a need for this table that we've been talking about for many months -- I'm pretty indifferent."
The access to the basement, however, is limited, and harder to get to than the main lobby of the airport. Clendenning recommended Craigslist for potential less expensive options for office furniture.
"I'd like to see us get a nice conference table," said Joe Zurfluh. "We're not taking it home -- so whatever we need to do."
The motion was passed to spend the funds on blinds and a new conference table, which will be taken from budget reserves.
