Area water ski show teams bring home awards

WISCONSIN DELLS – The “Show Ski Podcast” held its national awards ceremony at the Wisconsin Waterski Federation’s “Think Tank” convention March 5-6 at Chula Vista Resort, where two local teams brought home awards.

Shermalot Water Ski Show Team from the town of Rome was nominated in five catagories: Medium Team of the Year(35-49 skiers), Production of the Year-Clash of the Clubs, Best Sound Tech-Jade Plummer, Show Director of the Year-Raefe Gross, and D2/D3 Skier of the Year-Brian Daliege.

After winning the D2 Wisconsin State and the national titles in 2021, Shermalot won the Medium Team of the Year award. In addition, Raefe Gross won the Show Director of the Year award for all divisions.

Shermalot will start its 47th season in 2022 with its new production “The Barefoot Bandit.”

Returning as show director, Gross said, “The show is written and we can’t wait to bring it to the water on Memorial Day weekend.”

The Wisconsin Rapids Aqua Skiers were presented with the award for the “Best Event Hosts.”

“We are honored to receive such a prestigious award for all our hard work and dedication in planning the world’s largest water ski show tournament”, stated state committee member, Jordan Moon. “Our members work so incredibly hard every year to not only pull off such a large tournament, but to also compete in the tournament. It is a week in the summer that our members look forward to every season”, stated Moon.

The team hosts the Wisconsin State Water Ski Show Championships every year at Lake Wazeecha. The team brings in over 24 teams and 75 individual competitors to the community for the yearly event.

Wisconsin State Water Ski Show Championships Tournament Director and Aqua Skiers Member Maggie Muleski was also nominated for the “Official of the Year Award.”
