Arpin Man Charged With Possession After Nearly Hitting a Deputy

Posted

By Joe Bachman

A near accident involving a Sheriff's Department deputy has landed an Arpin resident with methamphetamine charges.

On Oct. 27, a deputy was traveling down Grant Rd. in the Town of Wood when he had to take evasive action to avoid a head-on collision with an on-coming vehicle. The deputy immediately turned around and went after the vehicle, who quickly turned into nearby residence and came to a stop.

The deputy identified the driver as 31-year-old Dustin Toews, who had a female passenger with him. The deputy observed an open container of beer in the vehicle which the defendant allegedly admitted was his.

After a pat-down, a rubber container was found on Toews, and inside was methamphetamine, as well as marijuana and a pipe found in the vehicle after a further search.

If convicted, Toews faces up to three years and six months imprisonment, and up to $10,000 in fines. His initial appearance is scheduled for Nov. 14.
