WISCONSIN RAPIDS -- Entertaining the community for 41 seasons, the Arts Council of South Wood County begins its 2017-18 lineup by welcoming Rockapella to the Performing Arts Center of Wisconsin Rapids.
On Friday, October 13, at 7:30 p.m., this men's a capella group will present a sparkling, ever-changing, wide repertoire of hits like you’ve never heard. Their appeal spans across the decades as they take on Macklemore, Prince, the Rolling Stones, Drake, Elvis Presley, Sam Cook, and Johnny Cash, to name a few.
Thrilling audiences with sleek, playful, astonishing a capella, Rockapella has become one of the world’s
most sophisticated, lasting, and imitated vocal groups around today. They continue to show every
audience the raw power of pure vocal talent and originality.
“There’s nothing in the way between us and the audience; it’s very human music,” says Rockapella’s human beatbox, Jeff Thacher. "No instruments, no tracks, no mirrors…but never lame."
Since the early ’90s when they first achieved national television fame on PBS’s “Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?” they’ve toured the globe and provided a funky, powerful soundtrack to several generations of vocal music fans, while keeping it all fresh along the way. With buckets of catchy original pop songs, and complete, contemporary revisions of sparkling Motown, pop, and soul classics, this group has always been the one to watch.
The New York Times rates Rockapella as “pure entertainment”.
