Anime Actress to Appear Onstage at ARTi Gras

Japanese Anime star Jessica Boone will take to the Wisconsin Rapids Community Theatre stage tonight and tomorrow in the Broadway play “Venus in Fur.”

Boone will appear in the Tony-award winning role of Vanda, along with Prague Shakespeare Company founder Guy Roberts. The actress and actor are in Wisconsin Rapids for the fourthannual festival of the arts ARTi Gras, which runs through March 18.

Boone received the award for Best Female Supporting Vocal Performance in an Anime Movie for her role as Kei Yuki in “Space Pirate Captain Harlock.” She has also been nominated for the same award for her roles of Kirie Kanoe in “Dusk Maiden of Amnesia” and Yuri in “Eternal Quon.”

In Wisconsin Rapids, Boone will be performing in a completely different capacity as the aspiring actress who overpowers and seduces a director when she meets him to audition for a role in his play. The production, which is recommended for ages 18 and up, gained rave reviews when it opened in Prague, and has toured to Budapest, Hungary, and to Houston, Texas.

Tickets for the show, which includes a reception with the actors, are $20 and are available at Wisconsin Rapids Community Theatre, located at 220 3rd Street South.

The phone number for ticket reservations is 715-421-0435.
