PORT EDWARDS – The Alexander House invites the public to welcome the New Year with the opening of “Crafted in Fiber,” a fiber invitational exhibition celebrating the richness, diversity and innovation of traditional and contemporary fiber art. The opening reception will be held on Friday, Jan. 9 from 5-8 p.m., and is free and open to the public.
Crafted in Fiber brings together an accomplished group of regional artists whose work spans traditional techniques and contemporary approaches to fiber art. Featured artists include Gabriel Berg (Viroqua, Wis.), Nancy Blake (Baraboo, Wis.), Barbara Cobb (Chanhassen, Min.), Mary Crnkovich (Spring Lake, Wis.), Pat Gaska (Rothschild, Wis.), Ludmila Gancova (Middleton, Wis.), Christine Herrmann (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.), Patricia Larsen (Amherst, Wis.), Beth Lemerand (Milwaukee, Wis.), Kathy Johnson (Milwaukee, Wis.), Elise Thornton (Stevens Point, Wis.), Deanna Waltz (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.) and Jeanne Weymouth (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.).
The exhibition highlights a wide range of fiber-based works, including textile construction, surface design, mixed media and sculptural forms. Together, the artists demonstrate the expressive possibilities of fiber as both a traditional craft and a contemporary art form.
Guests attending the opening reception will have the opportunity to meet the artists, enjoy light refreshments and experience the exhibition in a warm and welcoming gallery setting.
Crafted in Fiber will be on view through Feb. 17. The gallery is open Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1-4 p.m. or by appointment.
