Chili-Fremont Fire Department receives $5,000 Nutella grant

Posted

CHILI – The Chili-Fremont Fire and Rescue Department received a $5,000 grant from Nutella through the company’s partnership with the National Volunteer Fire Council to purchase new rescue equipment.
The Chili department was one of five volunteer fire departments nationwide selected for the grants through Nutella’s Stacks for Giving Back program. The program awarded $25,000 total in grants this year.
The department will use the money to buy Rescue 42s and stabilization equipment, including lightweight cribbing blocks for vehicle and agricultural rescue incidents. The current equipment is more than 15 years old and requires three to four firefighters to deploy, while the new equipment can be operated by one or two responders.
“We are incredibly fortunate to have such a supportive community and to be recognized through this generous grant,” Capt. Alex Lendved said in a news release. “This funding from Nutella and the NVFC will help us improve our response effectiveness and make a real difference in our ability to serve our community.”
Chief Toby Watson said the lightweight tools will improve safety for firefighters and victims, especially when limited crew is available during the initial response.

“We’re incredibly grateful to Nutella and the NVFC for this support,” he said.
The National Volunteer Fire Council is a nonprofit association representing volunteer fire, EMS and rescue services. Nutella’s parent company, Ferrero, has operations in more than 170 countries and employs more than 38,000 people globally.
The program also provided 150 pancake breakfast kits to volunteer fire departments for community fundraising events.
