Posted

Dennis Lyle Winkler, age 69, of Plover, WI, passed away peacefully on the bright morning of Sunday November 8th, 2015 after a courageous battle with cancer.

Dennis was born on May 14th, 1946, in Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin to Lyle and Faith Winkler. He grew up in Rapids along with his brother Doug and sisters: Darla, Deanna, and Debbie. Denny was a hardworking man, and provided for his family throughout his life. He retired from the Biron Paper Mill at the age of 55. Dennis enjoyed some good years up north as well as being with friends and family.

Denny loved life and all the wonders that it provided. He was an avid outdoorsman from a young age, which included hunting, fishing, camping, and hiking. He knew how to have a good time no matter what the circumstances were. Later in life he got a taste of the ocean and this began his love for travel. He found himself frequenting the east coast, Mexico, Dominican Republic, and Jamaica. Some of the best times he had, though, were with friends and family cooking out, having a couple, and telling stories by the pool. Dennis was always an animal lover. In his later years, he enjoyed taking the dogs (Kirby and Gizmo) for their daily walks.

The most important part in his life was his family. He left a legacy of knowledge, character, and love in his children and grandchildren. He taught everyone what hard work was while still ensuring you made time for yourself to have fun and live. He was kind man that always welcomed people with open arms.

Dennis is survived by his loving children: Shelly Winkler-Erickson, Mauston, WI; Troy (Frances) Winkler, Wisconsin Rapids, WI; and Zebulon (Sara) Winkler, Stevens Point, WI; 9 Grandchildren: Melissa, John, Brandon, DJ, Johnathan, Paige, Kaleb, Ethan, and Caydon, and 7 Great Grandchildren: Kiandra, Keagan, Kamryn, Landon, Tyler, Junior, and Melshoni. His brother Doug (Stacy) Winkler and sisters Debbie (Dale) Kellnhofer, Deanna (William) Fuhs, and Darla Manke. Lastly he is survived by some very special women in his life: Arlene, Sharon, Char, and Lynn.

He was preceded in death by his parents Lyle and Faith Winkler and his loved grandchild Colton Erickson.

A Celebration of Life will be held in Denny's honor on Sunday, November 15th, 2015 from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM at Jammers in Wisconsin Rapids at 2810 Eagle Road, Wisconsin Rapids, WI, 54494.
