MARSHFIELD – Area residents looking to get rid of hazardous materials can do so this Saturday, May 31, as part of the Wood County Health Department’s Clean Sweep program.
It’s open to farms and other households in Wood County, and officials say it can help keep agricultural and other hazardous waste from threatening the environment and the safety of sanitation workers. It also can pose an accidental poison risk to children and pets.
Everything brought to the collection site must be labeled or easily identified, and lids must fit securely. Materials may be refused if the waste contractor cannot dispose of it or if costs are excessive.
Last year, Wood County collected more than 5,000 pounds of household hazardous materials, including pesticides and paint, and more than 1,000 pounds in agricultural waste.
Saturday’s collection will be 8 a.m. to noon at the South Campus of the Marshfield Agricultural Research Station, 2611 Yellowstone Drive, Marshfield.
