WISCONSIN RAPIDS – Mayor Matt Zacher has proclaimed October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month in Wisconsin Rapids, joining communities across the nation in raising awareness and supporting survivors.
Domestic Violence Awareness Month was first observed in October 1987 as a way to connect advocates, honor those lost to domestic violence and strengthen efforts to end abuse. Since then, communities nationwide have recognized October as a time to both remember and act.
As part of the city’s observance, the Jackson Street and Grand Avenue Bridges will be lit purple from Oct. 1–14, serving as a visible reminder of the importance of breaking the silence and supporting victims and their families.
“The City of Wisconsin Rapids stands with survivors, honors those we’ve lost and reaffirms our commitment to ending domestic violence,” Mayor Zacher said in the proclamation.
Residents are encouraged to learn more about resources available locally and to stand together against domestic violence.
