WOOD COUNTY — The Wisconsin Farmers Union will host free day camps across the state this summer, offering hands-on agricultural education to youths.
The one-day events, open to all youth, focus on agriculture, cooperatives and leadership development while emphasizing the role of family farms in rural communities. Several camps will take place on working farms.
"These camps bring the energy and purpose of the Wisconsin Farmers Union youth program directly into local communities," the organization said in a news release.
Local and county Farmers Union chapters are organizing the camps, which fulfill program requirements for youth enrolled in the WFU Youth Program. Activities center on cooperation, community and agriculture.
The camps run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., except for the Chippewa Falls location, which runs 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
