Felon Found With Firearm After Bar Fight

A convicted felon faces jail time after he was found in possession of a firearm.

According to police reports, on Nov. 18, a call was made regarding a disturbance in a tavern on the 100 block of 2nd St. North. An officer observed a man being held by several patrons in the bar with injuries to his face and head, identified as Adam Fontaine, of Wisconsin Rapids.

Witnesses told police that an argument broke out between Fontaine and another patron when the defendant allegedly placed his hand in his jacket pocket and through it pointed what resembled a gun at the witness. The complainant immediately grabbed Fontaine's hand and pointed it down.

Other patrons joined in to restrain Fontaine and in the process, after ripping his coat, revealed a firearm -- Taurus model TCP PT738.

Fontaine allegedly told police that the gun was not his, but was in his possession for protection. According to the defendant, he was attacked by patrons in the bar with brass knuckles and flashlights, but never pulled his gun out.

Fontaine has a previous conviction in Langlade County for burglary in 2012 and is not to be in possession of a firearm. If convicted, Fontaine faces up to 10 years imprisonment and up to $25,000 in fines.

His preliminary hearing is scheduled for Dec. 7.
