GRAND RAPIDS – A gas leak completely shut down Highway 13 from Two Mile Avenue to Griffith Avenue in both Grand Rapids and Wisconsin Rapids on Wednesday morning, causing traffic delays.
At about 11:30 a.m., WE Energies was able to contain the leak, and officials opened the southbound lane back up, Grand Rapids Police said in a news release.
Officials said the leak was “significant” and likely happened when a gas line was struck during underground boring. No injuries have been reported.
Agencies that responded include the Grand Rapids Fire Department, Wisconsin Rapids Fire Department, Grand Rapids Police Department, Wisconsin Rapids Police Department, Port Edwards Police Department, Wisconsin Rapids and Grand Rapids Street Departments, We Engergies, and Water Works and Lighting Commission.
