WISCONSIN RAPIDS – McKinley Street between 8th Avenue North and 9th Avenue North will be closed to through traffic today for gas main installation work by We Energies.
The closure begins at 7 a.m. Wednesday, July 30, and is expected to reopen at 5 p.m. the same day, according to the city's road closure dashboard. Local detour routes will be in place during the work.
The utility work is separate from ongoing street reconstruction projects affecting other parts of the city.
A major closure continues on 14th Avenue North, where the street remains closed between West Grand Avenue and Fremont Street for a city reconstruction project that began July 8. The closure, initially planned between Fremont Street and High Street, was extended to West Grand Avenue. The street is expected to reopen in early September.
Starting Thursday, July 31, drivers also will encounter single-lane closures on the East Riverview Expressway bridge between 1st Street South and 2nd Avenue South. The Wisconsin Department of Transportation will conduct bridge maintenance work from 7 a.m. Thursday through 3 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 5.
The bridge work will affect both eastbound and westbound lanes during the five-day project.
Residents can get current closure information by calling 715-421-8205 or visiting the city's online road closure dashboard. Updates on construction projects are available at wirapids.org/construction-projects.html.
