WOOD COUNTY – In celebration of Martin Luther King, Jr., National Day of Service, JustServe organized a Bedding Drive to benefit the Ethiopian Community Development Council (ECDC) in Wausau. This initiative, inspired by Martin Luther King Jr.’s words, “Everybody can be great because everybody can serve,” brought several local communities together to address a vital need for refugee families resettling in Central Wisconsin.
ECDC is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping refugees from around the world rebuild safe, sustainable lives. Recently, ECDC - Wausau received a donation of 150 beds from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints but urgently needed bedding to accompany the beds. JustServe recognized this opportunity to serve and launched the bedding drive to help meet the need. Thanks to the generosity of several Central Wisconsin communities, the drive collected over 400 pounds of bedding. Contributions came from a diverse group of donors and organizations, including: Faith Lutheran Church Piece Corps Ministry and Round Barn Quilters in Marshfield, Trinity Lutheran Church Quilters and Roche-a-Cri Lions Club in Arkdale, Pine Tree Quilters Guild in Wausau, Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Wausau, Marshfield, Gresham, and Adams-Friendship, HCE Dedicated Divas of Marathon County, and community members across Central Wisconsin.
“Our goal was not only to honor Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy of service but to make a meaningful difference for refugees who are rebuilding their lives,” said Cassie Ashby, JustServe Specialist for Central Wisconsin. “King’s message reminds us that service is a powerful way to uplift others and strengthen our communities. The collective response to this drive has been truly inspiring.”
