Mayor Zacher proclaims October Domestic Violence Awareness Month

WISCONSIN RAPIDS – Mayor Matt Zacher has proclaimed October 2026 as Domestic Violence Awareness Month in the City of Wisconsin Rapids, calling on residents, institutions, businesses and schools to increase awareness and understanding of domestic violence and support prevention efforts.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, more than one in three women and one in six men have experienced contact sexual violence, physical violence or stalking by an intimate partner during their lifetime. The proclamation recognizes that domestic violence affects people across genders, sexual orientations, ages, and racial, ethnic, cultural, social, religious and economic groups.
It highlights the effects of domestic violence on survivors and their families, including homelessness, financial expenses and lost work hours, as well as potential long-term consequences for children exposed to domestic violence.
