Mayor’s Minute: An update with Mayor Shane Blaser

Posted

Wisconsin Rapids City Times staff sat down with Mayor Shane Blaser to get an update on activities in the city.

City Appointments

“One of my duties as mayor, and previously as a city alderman, is to make appointments to city boards, committees and commissions. This is an important job; the city directory should be current with these appointments, so that the public can reach out and speak up. The appointments themselves should be carefully selected – not for their personal gain, but for the greater good of the city. Local government functions best when its residents are informed and engaged,” Blaser said.

The mayor is responsible for making most appointments, subject to confirmation by the common council. Water Works & Lighting Commission and Ethics Board members are appointed by the common council.

“We are actively recruiting for the zoning board of appeals, Water Works & Lighting Commission, and ethics board. We accept appointment applications from city residents year around, so if you’re interested in any of the positions, not just these, apply today,” Blaser added.

Those interested in an appointment are asked to complete an application form and provide a letter of interest or resume that explains your qualifications relevant to the appointment(s) you’re interested in. The letter of interest and resume are required for council appointments.

Applications are available at the mayor’s office or online at wirapids.org/appointments.

“Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions. I have an open-door policy and encourage you to stop by my office, call, email or connect with me on Facebook,” the mayor added.

The mayor’s office can be reached at 715-421-8216, mayor@wirapids.org, or facebook.com/MayorShaneBlaser.

For detailed information about city administration and appointments, please review Chapter 2 of Municipal Code at wirapids.org/municipal-code. Residents are encouraged to view the city directory on our website atwirapids.org or by requesting a copy at the Clerk’s Office, to see current and upcoming appointments.
