For the City Times
WISCONSIN RAPIDS – The Mayors Youth Council, in partnership with Wood County Health Department, is piloting the Bicycle Benefits program – a project to connect bike riders and the business community. This project allows businesses to stand out as bike-friendly destinations, supporting and increasing the amount of people pedaling to their locations.
Bicycle Benefits is a year-round program which promotes all-season bike riding and helmet use. Businesses offer a discount or reward to arriving bike riders and in turn, this encourages bike riding in the community.
Organizers say that “by participating in the program, businesses help to create local excitement for bike riding as a healthy and fun way to navigate the city and to support the ever-growing number of riders” in the community.
Participating businesses give out helmet stickers to interested customers. Riders adhere the sticker to their helmet. This easily identifiable helmet sticker is a rider’s ticket to discounts and rewards when they ride to a participating location and show their helmet.
