Memorial Day events honor the fallen

As people gather with friends and family over the Memorial Day weekend, there are events taking place throughout Wood County to honor those who have died in service to the U.S. Here are some ways you can get involved.

FRIDAY, MAY 23

  • 1 p.m., Wood County Veterans Memorial, 400 Market St., Wisconsin Rapids: dedication of four Legacy Stones, Color Guard, rifle salute and Taps.

MONDAY, MAY 26

  • 9 a.m., Tomorrow River Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #11346, Amherst High School gym, 357 N. Main Street Amherst: Memorial Day program, followed by Solemn Procession to Mill Street Bridge, then to Greenwood Cemetery for final ceremony and Taps.
  • 9 a.m., Marshfield Civic Band at Hillside Cemetery, 1110 N. St. Joseph Ave., Marshfield
  • 3-3:15 p.m., Taps Across America, Fleet Farm, 1101 West Upham St., Marshfield: a live bugler will sound Taps at all Fleet Farm stores.
  • 2:15 p.m., The Highground Veterans Memorial, W7031 Ridge Road, Neillsville: Honor Ride procession through Neillsville, followed by ringing of Liberty Bell at 3 p.m. and Memorial Day ceremony.
