Municipal yard waste and leaf pickup

Posted

SOUTH WOOD COUNTY – As fall takes hold, the trees begin to let go of theirs. Laws regarding leaf disposal vary by municipality, so we’ve compiled a short guide for our readers.
Wisconsin Rapids
The first leaf pickup will take place from Oct. 19-23. Residents will be required to use large paper yard waste bags. Bags are available at local retail and hardware stores. Plastic bags will not be accepted, and yard waste in plastic bags will be left at the curb. Yard waste properly placed in paper bags will be taken and composted, and not emptied at the curb to be reused. Bags must be placed at the curb by 6 a.m. the first day of the collection.
Another Fall Yard Waste Pickup will be held by the City from Nov. 9-13.
Port Edwards

The Village of Port Edwards does leaf pickups every week, all week, until the Friday before Thanksgiving. Leaves must be loose.
Biron
The Village of Biron strongly encourages residents to recycle leaves, grass and garden debris at home by composting, mulching, or grass recycling. Residents can take excess yard materials (leaves, grass clippings and garden waste) to the Village drop-off site located behind the municipal garage at the end of Badger Street. A load should not exceed a pickup truck box in size.
Fall grass and leaf pickups take place starting the second week in October through the second week in November. Grass clippings and leaves are to be placed in paper bags. Grass and leaves must be kept separate from brush piles.
Grand Rapids
The Town of Grand Rapids does not offer leaf pickup. Residents can purchase a pass for the Wisconsin Rapids Compost sites. The pass is good for the complete spring/summer/fall season. Passes can be purchased at the municipal building and by mail.
