Posted

NEKOOSA – A 53-year-old Nekoosa man has been arrested in connection with the April 1 death of a 41-year-old woman, the Nekoosa Police Department announced June 12.

Paul J. Hardwick was booked into the Wood County Jail on June 9, facing charges of first-degree reckless homicide, possession with intent to deliver cocaine and THC, possession of drug paraphernalia, maintaining a drug trafficking place and felony bail jumping.

Police were dispatched to a report of an unresponsive female, identified as Sara M. Wilkinson, on April 1, according to a news release. Life-saving measures were attempted, but Wilkinson could not be revived. A search warrant executed at the home where Wilkinson was found deceased led to the discovery of illicit drugs. Authorities believe the primary cause of Wilkinson's death was the ingestion of drugs obtained from Hardwick.

Wood County Judge Gregory Jerabek set a $25,000 cash bond for Hardwick. His initial appearance is set for 1:30 p.m. June 16.

Nekoosa Police are also requesting charges from the Wood County District Attorney for two other residents of the home. Jacob R. Keith, 41, faces charges including manufacturing and delivery of THC, possession with intent to deliver THC (second offense), possession of drug paraphernalia and maintaining a drug trafficking place. Tammy L. Grasley, 59, faces charges of possession of THC (second offense), possession of drug paraphernalia and maintaining a drug trafficking place.

Both Keith and Grasley have initial appearances set for July 7.

The Wood County Sheriff's Department, Nekoosa First Responders and Wisconsin Rapids Fire/EMS assisted in the response.
