Nekoosa schools to highlight Native American culture

WISCONSIN RAPIDS – Nekoosa High School will be immersed in Native American culture on April 4, as it serves as the site of an upcoming culture event.

The event is organized as an opportunity for the public to experience the culture through traditional food, presentations, and activities.

The experience is connected to Act 31 – a state statute passed in 1989 in an effort to infuse Native American studies into public education. It requires Wisconsin public schools to provide instruction in the history and culture of federally-recognized tribes/bands in the state.

A dinner consisting of traditional food will run from 5-6 p.m., with presentations and activities from 6-8 p.m. at Nekoosa High School, 500 S. Cedar St., Nekoosa. It is a free event and all are welcome.

The event is hosted by the Ho Chunk Nation, Nekoosa schools, and the Nekoosa Area Title VI/JOM Parent Committee.
