Pittsville powers past Tomahawk in weekend action

PITTSVILLE — Logan Zickert drove in four runs and scored twice to lead Pittsville to a 13-5 victory over Tomahawk in Sunday, July 20's Dairyland League Small Division action, helping the home team gain ground in the standings.

Zickert went 3-for-5 with two doubles and was hit by a pitch for Pittsville, which collected 14 hits in the win. Grant Rademan also had three hits in five at-bats, while Kash Ostermann contributed two hits, two walks, three runs and an RBI. Daryn Luther earned the pitching victory.

The win was Pittsville's second of the weekend after routing Spirit 15-5 Saturday. Pittsville (2-3) moved within striking distance of the middle of the small division pack, while Tomahawk fell to 1-4.

Large Division Results

Wisconsin Rapids maintained its hold on first place despite a mixed weekend. The league leaders (9-1) swept Whittlesey 7-2 and 12-2 in Sunday's doubleheader after splitting Saturday's twinbill with Rhinelander, winning 11-3 before dropping the nightcap 9-0.

Second-place Everest (8-4) defeated Minocqua 5-2, while Abbotsford (6-7) outlasted Rhinelander 8-6 in 10 innings. Merrill (4-8) edged Marshfield 5-4 in an 11-inning thriller.

Small Division Action

League-leading Interwald (5-0) remained unbeaten with a 6-5 victory over Tony (3-2). Second-place Rib Lake (5-1) bounced back from Friday's 12-2 eight-inning loss to Westboro by hammering Spirit 15-5 Sunday. Medford (4-2) shut out Westboro 4-0 Saturday.

Wednesday's scheduled game between Wisconsin Rapids and Everest was postponed by rain and rescheduled for July 24.
