For the City Times

The Wisconsin Rapids Rafters broke one record last night and are hoping to break another before the weekend is out.

The Rafters defeated the Thunder Bay Border Cats in a close 2-1 match-up Friday night in front of a record-setting 2500 fans, the most Historic Witter Field can hold. With the win they also tie the record for most wins in a single season at 31. With three regular season games to go, the 2015 Rafters hope to be the winningest team in franchise history.

The 2013 team holds the current record for wins.

Jay Peters (UW-Milwaukee) earned his fourth win of the year for the Rafters, while Zach Thiac took the loss for the Border Cats. James Davitt (Bryant)threw a scoreless ninth inning for his fifth save of the summer.

Rafters outfielder Beau Jordan (LSU) single plated Sam Tolleson (Central Florida) for the first run of the game. The score held steady until the bottom of the seventh when the Rafters scored what would be the game-winning run. Michael McCann (Seattle) came on to pinch hit and laid down a bunt on a squeeze play and an bad throw let outfielder Ernie Clement score from third, bringing the score to 2-0.

Thunder Bay had runners in scoring position all night, but managed just one run on the night. The Border Cats stranded runners on third base in the first, third and fourth innings, and left a runner on second in the fifth, sixth, seventh and ninth.

Peters threw six scoreless innings while striking out nine and walking two. Clement, Tolleson and Jordan led the way at the plate for the Rafters, each hitting twice in four at-bats.

The Rafters host the Border Cats again tonight for their final home game of the season with the first pitch thrown at 7:05 PM. The Rafters take on the Green Bay Bullfrogs this weekend for the final 2-game series of the season.
