Reminder: Keep brush off road right-of-ways

Posted

ROME – Officials in the town of Rome are warning residents that brush stored in road right-of-ways poses safety hazards and violates municipal ordinances.
Town ordinance prohibits storing brush in right-of-ways for any period of time, according to a public notice. Officials cited safety concerns as the primary reason for the ban.
Residents must take downed, dead or diseased brush and timber to the town’s Transfer Site for disposal rather than placing it along roadways.
Properties with dead timber and brush in right-of-ways are subject to citation, the town warned. Officials conduct an annual fall brush pickup program, but dates for this year’s collection have not been announced.
The town asked residents not to place brush in right-of-ways until they receive specific instructions to do so during the designated pickup period.
