For the City Times

The first place (10-1) Riverkings have a bye weekend and will be volunteering at the Packers game working concession onThursday night.

They will also be raking leaves on United Way of Portage County "Make a difference Day Rake-a-thon"this Saturday. The culture of the Riverkings is about volunteering and providing a positive influence in the community through "building hockey up and down the river".

Coach Marty Quarter and Coach Wayne Brown stress the importance of giving more then we receive, which in-return builds character and pride within the team, but also helps the community that supports them.

"The players know being part of the Riverkings is more then just being on the team, it's about being part of a community that prides its self on hard work and civic responsibility," said Coach Quarter. "Not only do the players volunteers countless hours at SWCRC, they embrace being part of Wisconsin Rapids and are always willing to work towards having a positive effect in this great city."

The Riverkings return to action Friday Oct. 28 and Saturday Oct. 29at the South Wood County Recreation Center as they take on the Steel County Blades.

Puck drops at 7:30 p.m. both nights.
