Riverkings Look to Continue Success Against Chicago

Posted

By Joe Bachman

The division champion Wisconsin Rapids Riverkings will look to continue their playoff run tomorrow when they take on the Chicago Cougars.

Led by Forward Ryan Mantz with 98 points on the season, the Riverkings made easy work of the Detroit Fighting Irish last week, outscoring their opponent 21-1 in their two-game sweep. Goalie Erik Schuettte will make a likely start tomorrow for game one with an impressive goals against average of only 1.52.

Chicago is coming off of a nail-biter of a series, with a 2-1 series win over Forest Lake that saw two overtime games. Led by Forward Andrew Van Dyke, the Cougars are 23-21 on the year, and will face the Riverkings for the sixth time this season.

The last time these two team met was their three game series in February, which included the Heritage Classic, played in an outdoor drink. The Riverkings won all three games. The Riverkings have now won 12 straight games.

Held at the South Wood County Recreation Center, opening face-off will be at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday and Friday night. Same time for Saturday night if game three is necessary.

Tickets are $6, $4 for seniors, $2 for students, and Lincoln High School students get in for free. You can catch the action at 2711 16th St. South.
