MADISON -- Senate Republicans approved the inclusion of a $4 Million expansion to Alexander Field in the state budget on Tuesday.
According to a news release, the GOP released their plans for transportation, taxes and education; this included the expansion of Alexander Field in Wisconsin Rapids.
"Economic development in Central Wisconsin is one of my key priorities," said Senator Patrick Testin. "This funding will help improve our infrastructure here in Wisconsin Rapids and will be helpful for businesses and individuals in the region."
The inclusion of the expansion in the state budget has been long sought after by city and government officials, from 72nd District Rep. Scott Krug to Mayor Zach Vruwink, and comes as a welcome addition.
"I've enjoyed working with Senator Testin and Representative Krug on the proposal for Alexander Field," said Vruwink. "We've worked well together in support of a project that has a lot of potential for Central Wisconsin. I'm confident that the legislature and Governor Walker understand the importance of this airport to our region."
Funds will be allocated to Alexander Field if the state budget passes.
