WISCONSIN RAPIDS – The South Wood County Historical Museum is inviting the community to hit the road and discover local history during the South Wood County Historical Scavenger Hunt, taking place August 9–25.
This self-guided scavenger hunt features 10 historic locations throughout Wood County, encouraging participants to explore the communities, landmarks and stories that have shaped our region. Whether you’re a lifelong resident or visiting the area for the first time, the scavenger hunt offers a fun way to experience local history while exploring South Wood County at your own pace.
Participants can download the scavenger hunt brochure from the event page listed above or pick up a printed copy at the South Wood County Historical Museum. The brochure contains clues and details for participation. To complete the scavenger hunt, participants should visit each location and take a selfie or photo at every stop. Bring your photos to the South Wood County Historical Museum by August 25, 2026, to complete the challenge and be entered into the prize drawing.
Participants who finish the scavenger hunt will have a chance to enter a drawing to win a South Wood County Historical Corporation Membership. The prize includes a 2027 membership, free back issues of Artifacts — the museum’s historical magazine — an invite to the Members Reception during the Annual Christmas Tree Walk and additional benefits.
Once participants complete the scavenger hunt and visit the museum, they will have the opportunity to learn more about the history behind each featured location.
For more information, to pick up a brochure, or to verify completion of the scavenger hunt, visit the South Wood County Historical Museum during regular office hours: Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. or exhibit hours on Sundays from 1–4 p.m.
