State seeks input on Highway 13 roadwork in Wood County

Posted

WISCONSIN RAPIDS – Residents and businesses will have a chance to offer input on roadwork proposed for Highway 13 in Wisconsin Rapids.

Proposed work includes replacing pavement, traffic signals and sidewalk curb ramps from Lakewood Lane to Whitrock Avenue. If approved, the project would take place in 2028.

Two meetings are planned for April 22, one for businesses from 2-4 p.m. and the other for the general public, beginning at 5 p.m. They will be at Wisconsin Rapids City Hall, 444 W. Grand Ave.

To address pavement deficiencies and improve safety, the state Department of Transportation is proposing:

  • Replacing the existing concrete pavement with new base course and hot-mix asphalt pavement
  • Replacing existing curb and gutter
  • Evaluating traffic signals and repairing or replacing them as needed at the intersections of Highway 13 at County Z (Griffith Avenue) and Highway 13 at Kuhn Avenue
  • Evaluating the existing pedestrian curb ramps and repairing or replacing them with Americans With Disabilities Act-compliant ramps
  • Removing or modifying the existing storm sewer network to match the final roadway/curb and gutter elevations

WisDOT also is considering:

  • Evaluating the Highway 13-County Z (Griffith Avenue) intersection for traffic flow
  • Extending the sidewalk from the existing limits approximately 200 feet south of County Z on the east side of Highway 13 to Lakewood Lane

During construction, Highway 13 will remain open to through traffic, with typically one lane of traffic in each direction. Pedestrian access throughout the corridor will be maintained throughout construction.

The meeting facility is wheelchair accessible. Hard-of-hearing, deaf, deaf-blind or those with a speech disability needing accommodations should contact the Wisconsin Telecommunication Relay Service via 711 at least three days before the meeting.
