Sudden death of Grand Rapids firefighter

WISCONSIN RAPIDS -- Riley Daniel Ray Huiras, age 20, of Wisconsin Rapids, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, August 3, from a brain aneurysm. He was surrounded by his family.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 6, at 1:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Church, 441 Garfield St., Wisconsin Rapids. Friends may call there from 10 a.m. until service time. A private graveside burial will take place following the funeral service.

Riley was a 2020 graduate of Lincoln High School. He attended UW-Platteville for one year and then transferred to Mid-State Technical College to pursue a degree in Criminal Justice with plans to attend the Police Academy.

Riley completed the Firefighter 1 State Practical Exam. He served the Town of Grand Rapids as a member of the Police Department’s Auxiliary Unit, and as a Grand Rapids firefighter. Riley was honored Aug. 4 with a police-and-fire procession from the Marshfield Medical Center to the Ritchay Funeral Home following his passing.

As a youth Riley participated in Boy Scouts and earned the highest rank, becoming an Eagle Scout.

He was also an avid baseball fan, and worked with the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters organization for the past six years.

Riley was an organ donor as well, and to the amazement of the donation team, he was able to donate all of his organs to matching recipients.

Riley is the son of Kevin and Tami Huiras, Wisconsin Rapids. Donations can be made in Riley’s name to www.marshfieldclinic.org/giving going to MCHS Foundation for Aneurysm and Stroke research or Grand Rapids Police Department and Grand Rapids Volunteer Fire Department.

The family would like to convey a special thanks to the wonderful team at Marshfield Medical Center that took exceptional care of Riley during this unexpected illness.
