The Kraken have four conference champions, new state qualifier

WISCONSIN RAPIDS – The Central Wisconsin Swim Conference held the Conference Championship on Feb. 7-8 in Rhinelander. The Lakeland Swim Club (Minocqua) won the event, with Rhinelander in second and Bloomer finishing in third. The Wisconsin Rapids Swim Club finished eleventh of fourteen teams.
Jay Berg became the third Kraken to achieve his state cuts as he was the conference champion in the 25-yard backstroke. Jay also made the state cut with his second-place finish in the 25-yard freestyle. Jay went on to place second in the 50-yard breaststroke, and third in the 100-yard freestyle.
“Jay and his family started with our program back in October. Jay works hard at practice and is a pleasure to coach,” said Head Coach Dave Kontz.
Jay will be joining Anna Gumz and Milo Jennings to attend the Wisconsin 10-and-Under State Championship, scheduled Feb. 28-March 1 at the Verona Area High School Aquatics Center, which is hosted by the Badger Aquatics Club.
Anna Gumz became the conference champion in the 25-yard freestyle and 25-yard breaststroke. Anna also placed second in the 25-yard backstroke with a new club record, third in the 50-yard freestyle and fourth in the 100-yard individual medley. AJ Plummer became the conference champion in the 50-yard freestyle. AJ also placed second in the 100-yard butterfly and fourth in the 50-yard backstroke. Tretton Delaney became the conference champion in the 100-yard individual medley. Tretton went on to place second in the 50-yard butterfly, 100-yard freestyle, 50-yard and 100-yard breaststroke and third in the 200-yard individual medley.

Jameson Bernette placed second in the 500-yard freestyle. Jay also finished sixth in the 100-yard breaststroke and eighth in the 50-yard breaststroke.
Milo Jennings finished third in the 25-yard butterfly, and fifth in the 25-yard and 50-yard breaststroke. Joey Doebereiner finished third in the 200-yard backstroke. Joey also placed fourth in the 100-yard backstroke, and had a pair of fifth places in the 100- and 200-yard freestyle.
Claira Jennings finished fifth and set a new club record in the 50-yard butterfly. Mya Marquard had a pair of fifth place finishes in the 50-yard freestyle and 200-yard backstroke with a new club record. Finally, Addison Borek finished fifth place and a new club record in the 50-yard breaststroke. Addison also set new club records in the 50-yard butterfly, 50-yard breaststroke and 100-yard breaststroke. Aubrey Knoll qualified in the 100-yard backstroke.
The boys 200-yard freestyle relay placed in eighth place. Swimming for the Kraken was Milo Jennings, Jay Berg, Wyatt Hamilton and Ryan Besasie. The middle school girls finished in fifth place in the 200-yard free relay and fourth in the freestyle relay. Swimming for the Kraken was Mya Marquard, Kyndel Borek, Claira Jennings and Janessa Rucinski. The senior girls placed in tenth in the 200-yard medley relay. Swimming for the Kraken was Vivian Zacher, Addison Borek, Mackenzie Miloch and Willow Devine. The senior boys 200-yard freestyle relay placed third. Swimming for the Kraken was Tretton Delaney, Chasten Delaney, Gavin Bernette and Joey Doebereiner. The senior boys 200-yard medley relay placed third. Swimming for the Kraken was Joey Doebereiner, Tretton Delaney, AJ Pummer and Jameson Bernette.
The final team event for WRSC will be 2026 Wisconsin State Short Course Regional Championship hosted by the Ashwaubenon Swim Club at the Ashwaubenon Community Pool.
