The Kraken wins regional championship, qualifies three more swimmers for state

WISCONSIN RAPIDS – The Kraken attended the Wisconsin Winter Regional #2 Championships held at the Ashwaubenon Community Pool on Feb. 20-23. The Kraken is now part of the North Lakes Aquatics Club, as the NLAC won the event with Howard Suamico Storm getting second and Fox Valley Wave Swim Team finishing in third place. The event was attended by eighteen Northern Wisconsin swim clubs.
The Wisconsin Rapids Swim Club (WRSC) is pleased to announce there are three more state qualifiers to attend the State Swimming Championships. Emry Jennings finished in second place in the 50-yard butterfly with a new club record and a state qualifying time. Emry also placed fourth and a new club record in the 100-yard butterfly, and a pair of sixth place finishes in the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle. Emry also swam as part of the winning 200-yard freestyle relay and third on the 200-yard medley relay. Tretton Delaney placed second in the 100-yard Individual medley. Tretton also got fourth place in the 50-yard breaststroke with a seventh-place finish in the 50-yard and 500-yard freestyle, and 100-yard breaststroke. Tretton will be part of the state qualifying 200/400 medley and freestyle relay. Finally, AJ Plummer finished with a pair of fifth places in the 100-yard individual medley and a new club record in the 50-yard freestyle. AJ got sixth place in the 100-yard butterfly. AJ is also a part of the state qualifying 200/400 medley and freestyle relay.
Milo Jennings’ special award of the weekend was the third place high point trophy for his age group. Milo also won the 25-yard butterfly. Milo went on to get second place in the 50-yard backstroke, a pair of third places in the 25-yard backstroke and 50-yard freestyle and a fourth place finish in the 25-yard breaststroke. Finally, Milo got fifth place in the 50-yard breaststroke. Milo was part of the 100-yard medley relay, which took first place.
Anna Gumz swam to a first place in the 50-yard breaststroke and 100-yard freestyle. Anna also finished in second place in the 50-yard butterfly with a fifth place in the 100-yard individual medley. Anna set new club records in all her events this weekend. Anna was part of the winning 100-yard freestyle relay and second in the 100-yard medley relay.
Vivian Zacher placed third in the 50-yard freestyle. Vivian went on to set personnel records in the 100-yard breaststroke and 200-yard individual medley. Vivian was also part of the 200-yard medley relay finishing in third and seventh in the 200-yard freestyle relay.

Mya Marquard swam to a ninth place and a personal record in the 50-yard freestyle. Mya set a new club record in the 50-yard backstroke and a personal record in the 100-yard breaststroke. Mya was part of a 200-yard freestyle relay getting third place and a fifth place in the medley relay.
Janessa Rucinski swam for the first team at this regional event. Janessa swam to a personal record in the 100-yard and 200-yard breaststroke and the 200-yard individual medley. Janessa swam very well as part of the 200-yard freestyle relay that finished sixth.

Looking ahead at WRSC State Championship Swimming Meets

The 10 and Under State Championship will be held at Verona High School on Feb. 28 through March 1. Anna Gumz has qualified in six individual events and two relays. Jay Berg, Milo Jennings and Emry Jennings have all qualified in four individual events and two relays.
The State Senior Championships will be held at the Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center, also Feb 28. Through March 1 (in Brown Deer). Tretton Delaney and AJ Plummer will represent Rapids qualifying in four relays. Good luck to all the State bound Krakens!
