WISCONSIN RAPIDS– One of the goals at United Way of Inner Wisconsin is “Financial Stability” by helping community members learn skills to become financially independent. We accomplish this is by providing programs such as the FamilyWize Prescription Drug Discount Card.
We are proud to announce that we have been providing this useful resource to south Wood and Adams Counties for 10 years!
How FamilyWize Works
FamilyWize helps uninsured – or underinsured – individuals save up to 75% on prescription drug costs. It is NOT an insurance card – it is a discount card. Anyone can use it; there are no age or income restrictions. FamilyWize partners with nearly all pharmacies nationwide to negotiate prescription discounts so clients receive a lower price. You can visitwww.familywize.orgto use their “Drug Price Lookup Tool” to find out if your medications qualify.
United Way of Inner Wisconsin has partnered with FamilyWize to distribute discount cards in south Wood and Adams Counties. Cards are sent to us – at no cost to us – and we distribute them to local human service organizations.
Over the Years:
United Way began distributing FamilyWize cards in 2008. Since then, community members have saved a total of $485,064.45 on their prescription costs. Local use of the prescription discount cards peaked in 2015 when community members saved $95,751.75 that year alone.
“There are other discount cards out there, and we’ve been approached by many of them,” said Tari Jahns, United Way of Inner Wisconsin CEO. “Many of these ‘other’ cards give deals to the organizations who distribute them, but those benefits get taken away from the clients who need it most. When you read the fine print, FamilyWize just has the best discounts. That is why we’ve continued to partner with them over the years and will keep doing so in the future. This program mostly benefits those who are having to choose between needed prescriptions and putting food on the table. For people who are struggling to make ends meet, any little bit helps when it comes to keeping money in their pockets.”
