Update on Mead Splash Pad: Some Complications, No Delays

Posted

By Joe Bachman

WISCONSIN RAPIDS -- Mead's new splash pad is seeing some complications, though city officials remain optimistic of on-time completion.

"We are seeing some complications with obtaining some of the materials, specifically for some of the things to get mounted in the ground for the splash pad," said Public Works Director Joe Terry at Wednesday night's Parks & Recreation meeting. "Manufacturing time is slow because there is an unprecedented demand for splash pads right now."

However, a recent meeting with contractors finished with positive results, as they plan to "reshuffle" some aspects of the project to keep the project moving and on time. While a specific date has not been set for completion, this is a hopeful move that will keep the project from seeing any actual delays.

"It's hard to project a completion date right now while we're waiting on some of these other pieces of equipment -- so that's very frustrating," said Terry. "...both contractors know their margin by modifying and doing little things at a time to keep us moving -- and that negatively effects their margin -- I'm pleased at their willingness to do that to get this thing done as quickly as we can."

Unofficial completion date of the splash pad is expected to be in late-July. For more information on splash pad specifics, please click here.
