For the Rapids City Times

NEKOOSA –The 2019 edition of Wakley’s Winter Feast will be held Feb. 16, 4-8 p.m., at the Nekoosa Senior Community Center, 416 Crestview Lane, Nekoosa.

Robert and Mary Wakley, early central Wisconsin pioneers, were noted for their mid-winter parties held at their hotel located along the Wisconsin River just south of present-day Nekoosa.

Today the Wakley’s home is open as a living history center called Historic Point Basse. The Citizens of Point Basse – volunteers who operate the site – keep many of the early traditions alive, including a fun filled dinner and dance called Wakley’s Winter Feast.

The evening begins with the gathering, 4-4:45 p.m. At 5 p.m., a home cooked pioneer feast featuring domestic and wild game dishes will be served, to include baked chicken and ham, with all the trimmings.

The evening will include music and dancing provided by Strings on Prairie.

Tickets are available at Family Natural Foods, 910 W. Grand Ave., Nekoosa; Jeff Clark & Associates 3340 Eighth St. South, Wisconsin Rapids; or Beaver’s Variety Store, 410 Market St, Nekoosa.
