Wisconsin Rapids Aqua Skiers kick off new season

FOR CITY TIMES

WISCONSIN RAPIDS -- The Wisconsin Rapids Aqua Skiers Show Team has officially kicked off its 2023 season. The team hosted its first two indoor land practices in January at St. Luke’s Church in Wisconsin Rapids. During land practice, the team works together to teach members climbing pyramids, strap doubles, trios, and conventional doubles.

This year, the team is focusing on developing the team members' skills on the water, land, and in between. The team encourages anyone with an interest in learning how to water ski, drive a boat, announce or act on stage to join the team. No experience is needed and all ages and skill levels are welcome. The team has certified water ski instructors and well-seasoned veterans to help new members learn new skills. Show Director, Amber Dix states, “2023 is the year to try new things. By joining our team you will make new friends that will turn into family.”

Amber joined the Aqua Skiers in 1989 with her family when she was a child. She loves being able to share her passion for waterskiing with her husband and children. It is truly a family sport that everyone gets to participate in. 2023 will be the first year Amber and her husband Dan will be show directors together and they are most looking forward to putting new, unique acts on the water. “We may not have the largest team, but we will have the most fun this summer,” she adds.

Dan and Amber have been working with the team’s show committee to prepare the show's theme, ski acts, costumes, and production for the one-hour weekly shows the team performs for the community and their Wisconsin State Water Ski Show competition performance. The show theme for the 2023 season is based off of the team’s previous Wisconsin State Water Ski Show Championships performances and the bad weather the team has endured over the years during the tournament. The team can all agree that it wouldn’t be State Tournament weekend without a severe storm! The Dix’s are excited to bring the script to life on the water and showcase the growing talent of the members.

Future 2023 indoor land practice dates include March 12 and March 26. All practices are held at St. Luke’s Church in Wisconsin Rapids from 1 – 3 p.m.
