Wolf ecology clinic held in Necedah

Posted

Friends of Necedah National Wildlife Refuge and the Timber Wolf Education Network (TWIN) invite anyone interested in wolf ecology to attend a one day clinic on Feb. 1. The clinic is in two parts and begins at the Necedah National Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center, N11365 Headquarters Road, Necedah. The morning session, from 9-11:30, includes information on Wolf Management in Wisconsin, Conflict Management, and the Natural History of Wolves. This portion is limited to the first 50 people to register. Participants must be over the age of 12. Anyone between ages 13 and 16 in attendance must be accompanied by an adult.

The afternoon session, limited to twenty people, takes participants onto the refuge. While in the field, TWIN volunteers hope to show and interpret wolf sign, discuss census survey techniques, and discuss winter ecology of other creature signs opportunistically encountered. Attendance in the morning session is required to take part in the afternoon fieldwork, from 1-3. Anyone staying for the entire day should bring their own lunch as well as dress for the weather, including waterproof boots. People with ambulatory issues need to evaluate their ability to participate as the outdoor component is strenuous.
