WR Area Habitat for Humanity to host fundraiser

For the Rapids City Times

WISCONSIN RAPIDS – Wisconsin Rapids Area Habitat for Humanity will partner with McDonald’s, 2128 Eighth St. South, Wisconsin Rapids, on May 3 to help raise funds for Habitat’s mission to build homes, communities, and hope. McDonald’s will donate 10 percent of its sales from 4-7 p.m.

WR Area Habitat for Humanity was formed in 1992 through the initiative of a Chamber of Commerce community leadership class. The leadership members aligned their mission with that of the nonprofit Habitat for Humanity International, to build affordable housing for families who meet the qualifications for this need.

All Habitat homes are sold to partner families, at no profit, and they are financed with no-interest loans. The homeowners’ monthly mortgage payments are used to build another affordable house in the area. Partner families assume a 30-year mortgage, insurance, and the real estate taxes for their home.

WR Area Habitat for Humanity depends on the sponsorship of donated building materials from local businesses, the labor skills of area professionals, financial donations, and the homeowners’ monthly mortgage payments to provide these homes.
