WISCONSIN RAPIDS – Wisconsin Rapids District 1 Alder Joe Zurfluh will not seek reelection.

“I have served as District 1 Alderperson on the Wisconsin Rapids Common Council since April of 2016. After much thought and consideration I have decided not to seek re-election,” Zurfluh said.

On Nov. 17, Zurfluh filed a Notification of Non-Candidacy with the city clerk for the April 6 spring election.

“It has been my honor to serve the residents of Wisconsin Rapids in this capacity for what will be five years. I hope that filing this notice will give persons who reside in District 1, and may be interested in serving on the common council, an opportunity to consider running for this position.

“Nomination papers may begin to be circulated in just a couple of weeks and are due to be filed, along with other required paperwork, by the first Tuesday in January 2021. If you have a desire to serve, and can deliberate while being respectful of others, I urge you to consider running for office.

“Although I will no longer be serving on common council upon the expiration of my current term, I will continue to serve my community and all of Wood County in my position as investigative lieutenant with the Wood County Sheriff’s Department.”
