One dead and one injured following Wood County crash

WISCONSIN RAPIDS – One man is dead and another is injured following a Wood County crash.
On Dec. 6, at 6:37 a.m., the Wood County Dispatch Center received a call of a vehicle partially submerged in water in a ditch on a cranberry marsh. The accident occurred on Elm Road just south of Lincoln Road, in the township of Hansen.
When Wood County Sheriff’s deputies and first responders arrived on scene, they found the two occupants involved in the crash in the reporting person’s vehicle.
The driver of the vehicle involved in the crash sustained serious injuries; while emergency personnel attempted life-saving measures, the man later died. The passenger was transported to Marshfield Medical Center for his injuries.
It is unknown how long the occupants were exposed to the weather. Alcohol is believed to be a contributing factor in the crash. The crash is still under investigation.
Pittsville Fire Department, Vesper Fire Department, and Life Link Ill assisted with the accident.
The names of the victims are not being released at this time.
