Rafters drop game one against Woodchucks

WAUSAU – The Wisconsin Rapids Rafters (17-13) trailed early in a June 27 divisional matchup against the Wisconsin Woodchucks (17-14) and went on to lose 13-3.
The Woodchucks put up three runs in the bottom of the first inning and built a 13-0 lead over the first five innings, using five home runs. Wisconsin starter Trey Horton took a shutout into the seventh inning.
Matt Oldham put the Rafters on the board with a solo home run in the top of the seventh inning and Edarian Williams scored on a dropped third strike later in the inning. Williams scored again in the ninth inning on a passed ball to make it 13-3.
Rafters starter Neil Abbatiello gets the loss in one inning of work, and Woodchucks starter Trey Horton pitched 8.1 innings to earn the win.
The Rafters and the Woodchucks close the series June 28 at 6:35 p.m. on day two of a three-day road trip for Wisconsin Rapids. The Rafters return to Witter Field on June 30.
