Wood County deputy cleared in Arpin fatal shooting

By City Times staff

MARSHFIELD – A Wood County deputy involved in a June fatal shooting has been cleared of any wrong doing in a June shooting in Arpin.

Wood County Sheriff Deputies Cory Leigh and Nathan Dean responded to a welfare check the evening of June 11 at a residence on State Highway 186 in Arpin.  While conducting an evaluation of the subject, the individual, Logan Johnsrud, ran back into the residence and obtained a knife. A struggle ensued and the subject was shot. Authorities performed lifesaving measures but the Johnsrud succumbed to the injuries at the scene.

A Deputy Leigh was shot in the arm during the incident and another individual was shot in the finger.

The Wisconsin Department of Justice (DOJ) Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) has cleared Deputy Nathan Dean following an investigation into the incident. Dash and body camera video have also been released.
