WOOD COUNTY – A Wisconsin Rapids woman was injured in a Wood County single car accident.

“On Sept. 26, at approximately 5:55 p.m., Wood County Central Dispatch received the report of a one vehicle crash on STH 186 just north of Grant Road,” a department release said.

“A vehicle was traveling southbound on STH 186 when it reportedly veered to avoid an animal in the roadway. The vehicle left the roadway striking a driveway embankment. The operator, and sole occupant, was injured as a result of the crash.”

The driver,  Mackenzie Kroening, 19, of Wisconsin Rapids, was airlifted by Spirit Medical Transport to Marshfield Medical Center and is in stable condition.

The southbound lane of State Highway 186 was closed for approximately one hour due to the crash.

The Wood County Sheriff’s Department was assisted by Pittsville Ambulance, the Pittsville Fire Company, Vesper Fire Department, and Spirit Medical Transport.
