Two local athletes compete in High School National Powerlifting Championships

WISCONSIN RAPIDS – Two local athletes recently competed in the High School National Powerlifting Championships in Aurora, CO, May 27-30.

Abby Schuerman lifted in the 125-lb weight class and competed equipped.

Mason Mitchell

Mason Mitchell lifted in the 205-lb weight class and competed raw. Submitted photo

Abby finished second in the High School Varsity division and second in the Teen 2 division, lifting 319 lbs in the squat, 154 lbs in the bench press, and 308 lbs in the deadlift, for 781 lbs.

Mason Mitchell lifted in the 205-lb weight class and competed raw.

Mason finished 17th in the High School Varsity division and eighth in the Teen 2 division, lifting 423 lbs in the squat, 352 lbs in the bench press, and 446 lbs in the deadlift, for 1221 lbs total.

Mason’s bench press set a new Wisconsin state high school record for his weight class.
