Matalco to break ground in October
For the City Times
WISCONSIN RAPIDS – Matalco, Inc. has secured the necessary construction permits and will break ground in early October.
Earlier this year, Matalco announced its selection of Wisconsin Rapids with plans to invest over $80 million to construct a manufacturing facility in the Rapids East Commerce Center. At that time, the project was pending city approvals on real estate sales and development agreements.
“I am pleased to announce the Matalco project has reached another milestone,” Mayor Zach Vruwink said. “All approvals from state and local agencies have been secured and the necessary permits have been issued to begin construction.”
A groundbreaking ceremony for the plant has been slated for Oct. 1, at noon on the construction site, 4800 Commerce Dr., Wisconsin Rapids. This new 110,000 square foot manufacturing plant will be equipped with the latest advanced technology and will employ 80 permanent, full-time personnel with an annual production in excess of 230 million pounds of high-quality aluminum billet. The plans for this facility will ensure service to both existing customers and prospective clients and expand their market share.
Matalco is a producer of state-of-the-art aluminum extrusion and forging grade billet and rolling ingot slab manufactured primarily from scrap aluminum. The company has four plants located in Brampton, Ontario; Canton, OH; Lordstown, OH; and Bluffton, IN.
