WISCONSIN RAPIDS – The Wood County Health Department said that its 10^th confirmed case of COVID-19 was out in Pittsville and Wisconsin Rapids establishments before being tested.

“The Wood County Health Department has received notification of its 10th case of novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19). The individual is not experiencing symptoms at this time and is now self-isolating and monitoring for symptoms,” a department release said. “Prior to testing, and while potentially contagious, the individual did visit businesses in Wood County and was in close contact with others whose names are unknown.

“Establishments visited by the individual include the Blue Bayou Pub in Pittsville and Jammers in Wisconsin Rapids on the early evening and late evening of Sunday, May 24, respectively. County health officials are working to determine how the individual may have become infected and are contacting others with whom the person with the positive result had close contact.”

Once a person tests positive for COVID-19, contact tracing begins. When it is not possible to specifically identify exposed contacts, a press release is issued to inform the public of potential risk.

For those who may be concerned about exposure and are interested in being tested, free testing will be available on June 2 at the Marshfield Fairgrounds, 11 a.m. – 7 p.m.
