A Port Edwards woman is charged with alleged felony bail jumping, pointing a firearm at another person and disorderly conduct including domestic abuse and use of a dangerous weapon.

On June 17, Port Edwards police met the ex-boyfriend of the accused Heather Westlund, 37, outside of the Edgewater Haven nursing home. The boyfriend told police that he had fled his home after Westlund had threatened him with a shotgun.

According to court documents, Westlund and her boyfriend had been fighting for about an hour and a half when she punched him in what he called his solar plexus. He then locked himself in the bathroom for safety.

According to the boyfriend’s testimony, Westlund then grabbed a baseball bat and began to beat on the bathroom door, making three holes. Westlund said the holes came from her boyfriend punching the door. That claim has not been corroborated by evidence at this time.

Westlund’s boyfriend then asked her to calm down to which she replied by grabbing a camouflage colored shot gun from behind a bedroom door, pumping it one time and then pointing it at him.  That is when the boyfriend fled from the house and met up with police.

A Port Edwards police officer contacted Westlund at her home. At first she denied pointing the shotgun at her boyfriend but upon further questioning confirmed the incident.

She was arrested on charges of felony bail jumping due to a previous bond requiring she not have any contact with the ex-boyfriend. The class H felony could result in up to 10 years imprisonment, a $10,000 fine or both. Pointing the shotgun at another person is a class A misdemeanor  for which Westlund could face nine months in jail, up to a $10,000 fine or both. The disorderly conduct charge can result in a $1000 fine and up to nine months in jail.

Westlund pleaded not guilty to all charges.
